How To Enjoy The Summer While Working
When the summer eventually arrives, it can feel like torture spending time inside while the sun is beaming. With a few routine and habit adjustment, you can enjoy it to the maximum.
Hello, lovely readers,
I’m in a fantastic mood thanks to summer finally (I hope it won’t disappear again) arriving in the UK. We would typically have warmer days at the end of May and the beginning of June, but it was cold and wet. The sunshine is beaming, and I don’t know about you, but I want to spend a lot more time outdoors.
While working from home, an office, or another indoor environment, it can feel frustrating to stay inside when the weather is so glorious (and often short-lived).
However, there are ways to maximise your summer and ensure you get the most from it while working.
Although I’ve been suffering with the worst hay fever I’ve ever had, I’ve still tried my best to spend time outside because I love soaking up the vitamin D. Plus, everyone is much happier and friendlier, so it rubs off and helps boost my positivity.
Get Outside In The Morning
Although the summer months in the UK don’t offer the warmest morning temperatures, they are often pleasant. Whether the sun has made an appearance or not, it’s great to get outside first thing in the morning.
Rolling out of bed and straight into the world might not sound ideal, but trust me when I say you will feel a whole lot better for the rest of the day. Morning fresh air and a small dose of vitamin D are great for boosting energy and helping you spend more time outside when the weather is nice.
Take More Than One Walk A Day
I understand if you dread going outside more than once a day in the winter. However, you need to embrace spending more time walking in the summer. How else can you enjoy the beautiful weather on a lunch break or a quick shop dash?
Taking more than one walk a day is ideal. Try to get outside at lunch time for as long as possible so you can make the most of the day.
Outdoor Dinners
If you have a garden, local park, or favourite outdoor bar, head outside after work to soak up the last of the warmth.
It’s ideal if you have a garden as you can cook and eat outside. If you don’t (like me) take a dinner picnic to the park or take a stroll to a local coffee shop or bar. Spending as much time outside as possible will certainly help you make the most of summer.
Just because you work inside doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy any of the sunshine throughout the day. Make any excuse to get outside.
Now is a great time to prioritise your self-care. So, add walks to your self-care list and make sure to pursue them daily.
Sit Closer To The Windows
Although windows can be a heat trap in summer, you can sit there and work comfortably with the right setup. Sitting close to a window might allow you to enjoy the gentle summer breeze or sunshine.
If it feels too hot, don’t give up too quickly. Direct a fan toward your working space or switch on the AC in the office. Every adjustment makes the biggest difference.
Take Your Workout Outside
If you enjoy working out throughout the week, take your sessions outdoors. You could run outdoors instead of using the treadmill or set a yoga mat up on the grass for a yoga session amongst nature.
Many people exercise in local parks, and it’s a great idea. You can use any outdoor space and make the most of it while improving your fitness.
Lunch In The Park
If you don’t fancy a walk at lunchtime, you could find a local spot - outside on a bench, in the local park, or elsewhere - to enjoy your lunch.
Whether you work from home or in a city, you can make the most of the midday sunshine when you enjoy a lunch date with yourself or colleagues outside.
Simple adjustments to your usual routine and habits will allow you to maximizse summer while working. You don’t need to feel locked inside when there are plenty of opportunities to spend some time in the summertime fresh air.

THINGS I’M LOVING THIS JUNE
More sunshine. I know I’ve banged on about the sunshine enough, but I can’t help it. It feels so refreshing that summer has finally arrived (and hopefully is here to stay!).
Apricots. I’m typically an apple or mango eater. But, apricots have been my recent fruit favourite. Keeping them in the fridge makes them the perfect cool summer snack.
Tidying and organising. I’ve had a cold mixed with hay fever, and for a few days, I felt rough. I’m typically a busy person, so it was tough for me to sit still. Now that I’ve recovered, I have been in ‘tidying and organising’ mode. I think it's the feeling of a new season, but the flat feels amazing.
Evening walks. I walk a lot throughout the day. While working from home for myself, I have to hold myself accountable to get my steps in and get outside. Evening walks have been my recent favourite as it’s a great way to connect with others and improve digestion for a more restful sleep.
Megan, I love these ideas for getting outdoors. Even though I live in Hawaii, it can still be hard to get outside when I am absorbed in my writing.
Gorgeous post today Megan! Getting outdoors first thing in the morning for a walk really elevates my day x
